Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is missing only Marko Pjaca to injury and has selection decisions to make at right-back and in central midfield.

Dani Alves played only five minutes off the bench against Chievo at the weekend, which may mean he is in line to start over Stephan Lichtsteiner here. Claudio Marchisio and Miralem Pjanic, meanwhile, will battle it out to start with Sami Khedira in central midfield.

Potential starting XI: Buffon; Dani Alves, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic; Cuadrado, Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuain.

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique’s big problem is the absence of Sergio Busquets due to suspension. The midfielder has travelled, as have the injured Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan, despite being unavailable to play.

There are two solutions; the most obvious is to use Andre Gomes, who has been deployed in the holding role before, as a direct replacement. The other is to bring Jeremy Mathieu into defence and push Javier Mascherano forward, where he could fill in for Busquets and keep track of Paulo Dybala.

Potential starting XI: Ter Stegen; Mascherano, Pique, Umtiti; Gomes; Sergi Roberto, Rakitic, Iniesta, Neymar; Messi, Suarez.

Which Barcelona will show up this time?

We saw two very different sides of the Blaugrana in the last round against Paris Saint-Germain, and there is no way they will be able to get away with such a poor away showing this time against a much more experienced, disciplined Juventus team.

Luis Enrique’s side have looked like a different proposition, however, since switching to a three-man defence. They had won eight and lost one after the 4-0 loss in Paris until this weekend, when they suffered a second defeat – after returning to a 4-3-3 – at Malaga.

The absence of Sergio Busquets complicates things, however, and Juventus will hope to pounce on any tactical uncertainty. The Bianconeri did an efficient job of dispatching of Porto, shutting the Portuguese side out in a 3-0 aggregate win. Barcelona vs Juventus Live

They, too, have adopted a new shape of late, with Mario Mandzukic becoming a converted left winger in a 4-2-3-1.

As is the case with Lionel Messi in Barca’s system, the formational switch has given Paulo Dybala license to roam as a natural No.10 rather than starting out wide or as the highest forward. The two Argentines could be spectacular to watch on Tuesday night.

Juventus: Sitting six points clear at the top of Serie A, with only seven games remaining, in the Champions League quarter finals and still aiming for the domestic cup, Max Allegri’s side are ticking the boxes required of 2016/17. And although the team is going for an unprecedented sixth consecutive Italian title – and a third cup – getting their hands on European club football’s biggest prize, something they’ve only done twice and haven’t done since 1996, is what they really want. And against many people’s favourites for the trophy this season, they can make a strong statement.

Many of the players and management team have been talking ahead of this huge clash and few have intimated too much concern over their opponents being drawn against them. The message seems simple, plenty of respect to the Spanish champions – especially to their generally potent front three – but no fear. Luis Enrique’s team is not at the level of previous iterations. And Juventus have enough stars of their own to take the game to the visitors.

Experience doesn’t come in much better packages than that of Gianluigi Buffon. Along with a backline including Bonucci and Chiellini, the Old Lady has only conceded 20 goals in the league this season. At the other end of the pitch there is the small matter of 90-million-euro Gonzalo Higuain. Could we be talking about whether he or compatriot Messi is the difference after 180 minutes or more? Or, instead, could another Argentinian, Paulo Dybala take the limelight as he continues to impress?

Player to watch: Paulo Dybala – the 23-year old is getting better and better and this means no let up in the rumours transferring him away from Turin. But if he can pull the attacking strings like he’s shown in the league, being in the best team in Europe may mean no change of address.

Barcelona: Luis Enrique and co should be coming into this game on a high. After the miracle comeback against PSG the stuttering season seemed to be back on track. Pressure was being suitably applied to Real Madrid in the race for LaLiga and form was back, not something their rivals could claim. But instead, after seeing Madrid drop two points in the afternoon, they dropped three in the evening. Now more pressure is on, and against a much tougher opponent.

To makes matters worse for the Catalans, Sergio Busquets is going to be missing from the middle of the park. This could mean a starting berth for the much-maligned Andre Gomes especially with his manager coming out vociferously in his defence in the pre-game press conference. What is almost certainly true is that if Messi, Suárez and Neymar don’t function to somewhere close to their collective best then they may need another Camp Nou miracle in a week’s time. Player to watch: Neymar – After his silly sending off at the weekend, many will expect the candidate for player of LaLiga this season to step up and change the narrative. Capable of being the difference in Turin.
